Available Formats

The video is split into three sections. It is available in MP4 or Flash (FLV) formats. Click on an option below to view online in its entirety free of charge. With such a wide variety of devices and software now availble it seemed practical to offer options. It would not be practical to test the site on all available configurations in the marketplace. So, while MP4 should work through most common browsers and devices we have also included Flash (FLV).

In our experience the video runs well on any fairly modern device with any fairly modern consumer-grade Internet connection. However, performance will undoubtedly vary depeding on what kind of hardware, software and connection you are using. Someone who still has dialup, for instance, is likely to experience issues. If performance is jumpy, pause the video and do something else for a few minutes. When you return a larger portion of the video may be ready and performance may be better. If using a nearby wireless connection (such as one set up in your home) you might also try moving closer to the transmitter. We have found performance to be less reliable on high-traffic public networks such as the one at your local coffee shop. MP4 format is going to work better on tablets or smartphones. Our testing found that a third-party app was needed to view FLV on a mobile device. You may find that FLV is more reliable on older desktop setups that haven't been updated in a long time. Some issues have been reported by people using Firefox to view the movie in MP4 format. Sometimes it works perfectly. Other times it can be intermittant. In all cases where this was observed the problem was solved by: 1) viewing FLV format in Firefox or 2) switching to Google Chrome and viewing MP4. While watching the video you may activate full screen mode at any time. This is done by hovering your pointer over the video player and clicking the double arrow control that appears at bottom-right. We suggest sitting several feet back from the computer while in full screen mode for the best viewing experience.

You will notice a black bar across the bottom of the screen. That is a window seal. Our tripod wasn't quite high enough to clear it. Most of the video was shot out the train's rear window. This was the best place to get maximum material in one shot. The exception was in Kenosha station after our ride, at which point we captured several interesting moves from the platform.
